Our banner shows the crest of the Bok Family, and the Rotary International emblem, in gold, on the blue background of the banner. What is the meaning of the design? Charter member Harold Resnik (PP/PHF) explains .....

1. The triangular shape is similar to a
yachting pennant and signifies our association with Boksburg Lake
where boating takes place.
2. The basic blue colour is the colour of Rotary and also the
blue skies of the Transvaal. (see note i)
3. The gold cord is the other colour of
Rotary and also the gold industry around which the town of
Boksburg developed. ie. the East Rand Proprietary Mine or ERPM. (see note ii)
4. The wavy band across indicates the
waters of Boksburg Lake, being the pale blue upper and lower
bands. The greenish/gold band indicated the gold found deep below
the waters of the lake. Gold reef is nor found in a straight line
in the ore, but in an undulating wavy line.
5. The town crest is the heraldic crest of the Bok family. Mr Bok
was the land surveyor who created the first town plan for
Boksburg during the 1880's.
6. The motto "RESPICE FINEM" means "LOOK AT THE
END" and indicates our hope in the future.
Notes :
i) The Transvaal is the old name of the province north of the
Vaal River. Since the 1994 elections and the establishment of the
new provincial boundries, Boksburg now fall in the Gauteng
province.
ii) The gold chord used to hang from the bottom of the banner. The cost of producing banners with the gold chord is no longer viable so we have dropped the gold chord from the banner.
